Your Most Outrageous Diet Tricks

Weight loss isn’t easy, and it’s no piece of fat-free cake for the stars, either. Even they rely on some pretty crazy methods to drop unwanted pounds. When she needs to lose weight, Cameron Diaz cuts out all white food (like pasta and bread) because it can have high amounts of sugar, her trainer Teddy Bass told InStyle. And Lily Allen attended hypnotherapy sessions … at a reported $600 an hour! … to help curb her eating. We’ve heard of lemonade diets, soup diets … even cookie diets!
Now tell us: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done to lose weight? We promise not to judge!

Well, like Cameron Diaz, I have cut out all “white” foods (containing gluten). My father has a gluten allergy, and after seeing his weight loss, I decided to give it a try (also because I will inherit it later in my life). It has improved my skin, and I have more energy to do the things I love.
Good for Cameron Diaz, she did all that with no bread and pasta .So it works.
When I was a freshman in college, there was a lot of pressure to be thin. Everyday I would try to only eat 500-700 calories a day and run 4-5 miles at the track. That obviously could only last a few months, considering my schedule, but I did lose about 20 lbs. It got to the point that I could only eat 1000 calories a day without gaining weight because my body was conserving as many calories as possible.
I started the lemonade diet (Master Cleanse) today. I am starving and trying to remind myself that I want to drop weigh quickly so I stick with it.
when i really need to drop the extra pounds quickly i switch up my meals. i have the largest for breakfast and that could be anything i want, then go smaller for lunch and less for dinner but the kicker is, i wouldn’t eat anything after 7pm… then just watch the waist line slim down!… it works!
I’m starting the Master Cleanse (Lemonade Diet) tomorrow. It works. I have done it once before and it truly does average about a 2 lbs a day in weight loss. I will do 14 days of this and then follow a Nutrisystem style eating regiment (another excellent diet plan that WORKS!) to complete my goal of a total 70 lbs in weight loss.
Carmen is right on with the “cut out all white foods”, add soda removal and exercise and anyone can do it!
I started doing Turbo Jam and ate TONS of celery because it is a negative calorie food. I ate baked chicken and celery pretty much all day and I lost 20 lbs in a month!
i only ate chocolate and nothing else. exercised alot. loss about ten pounds (130 down to 119) but ended up hating myself and gained it all back. it sucks
how can someone lose up to 5 pounds in one week?
i am a vegetarian and have been since i was 13, and its made me feel so
much better && have so much more energy to things, like working out. && since
I do not eat meat or meat products I substitute my protein with lean fish and lots
of nuts(peanuts, almonds, walnuts ect.) which also make me feel light & full at the same time. so, just a thought, add more high protein foods to your diet such as nuts rather than meats, you may feel better. =]
Mattie- I’m sorry, but I can’t agree with you eliminating gluten from your diet for weight loss. I don’t eat gluten because I can’t. Like your father, I imagine, I am a celiac and am intolerant to gluten. I cannot imagine why anyone would not eat gluten because they want to lose weight. That seems very insensitive to me.
I weigh less than 100 lbs., and I am regularly asked how exactly I stay so slim. My answer is always the same: a balanced diet and moderate exercise. Most people respond by telling me that this is crazy, and does not work. Which begs the question, if all those crash diets work and my sensible diet doesn’t, how do I stay slim while the crash dieters keep gaining weight?
I recently had a baby, and I have tried everything to lose weight.. i found that as soon as i stopped breast-feeding i stopped losing weight and actually started gaining it. first i tried master cleanse which left me feeling even more drained than someone would be when dealing with a newborn so i couldnt manage that. instead, I have been exercising 5 days a week and following along with the two Biggest loser dvds.. and i must say IT WORKS!!! i have already lost 5 pounds in 6 days and look toned. it really does work.. you MUST TRY IT.. oh yeah and i drink an insane amount of coffee with hardly any food.. maybe that not good. but im seeing results
I know being healthy is good but most of Hollywood is made of the “lollypops” they have big heads and tiny bodies. When is dieting bad?? Why do we have to be so skinny?? It’s not okay to be 300 lbs but is it okay to be 90? People just need to pick the right diet plan, Cameron’s is good but she is so skinny as it is does she need to be any more skinny?
if you eat fish youre not vegeterian…
I had my son almost 2 years ago, and havent been able to lose ANY of the weight.. I am going to try to cut out the breads and pastas maybe that will work for me…
I have started the Body for Life program by Bill Phillips, I had done his program three months before my wedding to loose 50lbs. It is not a diet it is a lifestyle. So if you are not willing to do both the Food for Life program and the Fitness for Life program then you will have less success. It is nice though because it only has a grand total of 3 hours per week in the gym, and that can be less too if you have cardio machines at home and free weights. Check out the full program online at http://www.bodyforlife.com
I’m doing the southbeach diet. For the first 2 weeks you can’t have any bread or sugary foods. It is a real test for all those who love toast, cereal and candy. It works great! After the first 2 weeks you learn to start incorporating healthy carbs. It actually improved my liver level results as well. I’ve lost 13 pounds and kept it off. My dad and sister lost 30 and my mom lost around 20 in a matter of about 2-3 months. It works great!
I did the Fat Flush Plan, and it was amazing. I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks, but most of all I felt fantastic. The plan cleanses your liver and allows your body to make and distribute the proper hormone levels. I slept well for the first time in about 7 years, my cellulite went away, my skin looked younger, I had tons of energy. Get the book so that you can know the foundation of the cleanse. Then the key is to go online and get some of the amazing recipes people have created that are Fat Flush-friendly. The only reason I didn’t stay on it longer was I really didn’t need to lose any more weight, and I’m in graduate school and the prep time for cooking the meals was time-prohibitive.
no white foods???
I’ll try it (:
The reality is DIETS DON’T WORK – they are a short term fix with unhealthy consequences either physically, emotionally or both. It is concerning that People magazine would post a page like this would just encourage conversations on outrageous diet habits. Some of the comments already posted are concerning, unhealthy and potentially could encourage others to have eating disorder behaviours (like extreme calorie restriction). As the manager of an eating disorder centre I see the reality of diets and their potential to cause further harm.
A good rule of thumb- eat a variety of foods for nutrition, taste and enjoyment. Focus on health and not looks.
I have Celiac Disease, struggled with weight as a child, and was the “fat girl.” For somebody to say that just cutting out gluten and “white foods” is simply a way of life is unfair. I have lost weight, but it’s really about health for me and others who SUFFER. For somebody to just do it temporarily and go back, what progress is made? I don’t think it’s sensitive nor is it right to post dieting tricks on the internet.
How about instead of binge eating and ignoring exercise and then crash dieting, you follow a healthy regime and work out? Hmm..sounds wild.
That is so WEIRD that some of you are JUST starting the Master Cleanse, cause so am I, right now! Eerie. Anyhoo! It all depends on your body type. My friend who is naturally skinny said that only when she became vegetarian and stopped eating meat, she lost weight. She has soy, eggs, and dairy though. And I noticed she eats really slow. She is also a night club dancer on weekends and eats very little, except water, on those days. She says that her upper body is always cold, but she says her legs always feel warm. The same goes for another really, really skinny friend of mine. Also, her body is very soft, like a teddy bear when you poke it. But my second skinny friend has a hard, muscular body and is skin and bones everywhere else. I am the opposite of them both in that I gain weight easily and have an apple shape figure and gain weight in my upper body more, with broad shoulders (luckily I don’t have problems with voluptuousness in the chest area of course, unlike my skinny friend who gains weight, if any, below her waist). I never thought this, but my first friend poked my thighs and said that I seemed to be more muscular. Which would explain the difference between her softness and my toughness, I guess. But I am not tight muscular, like someone with a sports figure. I have probably more muscle, but it sags a little compared to, let’s say, my mom who even at 60 is tight all over and use to be athletic growing up and is very strong and is not very voluptuous in the chest area.
I noticed that when i moved out of my parents home and lived on my own, with no car, in another state, and would walk around alot, including carrying groceries and such, I lost a ton of weight. The minute I got a car and a desk job, I ballooned back, but not as badly as when I was living with my parents. It’s due to the fact that when you move to an urban area with no car and have to walk around alot to get to places, as well as carry things while doing it, you naturally lose weight, keep more busy, socialize more and are less hungry. Just sitting around does not help at all. You have practically no metabolism when you’re sitting. And because we’re raised to believe that we HAVE to eat all the time in order to sustain energy and be healthy is a myth. I discovered this after 29 years of struggling with weight. The fat on your body is a storage system of energy. You need to use up the fat that’s already on your body. I don’t believe eating 4-6 small meals a day, or going on a high protein diet, or even going to the gym helps much! You need to use up the stored fat on your bones! Eating every 2-3 hours because you think it’s detrimental if you don’t is a hoax! And it’s all really mental. The fact that you get dizzy or mentally lethargic is all due to you’re way of THINKING. Meaning it’s all mental. You can literally cause yourself to have sugar prolems and high blood pressure problems because you feel that if you don’t take something, whatever it is, you won’t be able to do things and then you start thinking, “My head feels weird because I didn’t eat anything. I better eat atleast a slice of meat or something, so I’m okay.” Just keep thinking in your head, I need to use up the fat that’s already on my body before I feel like I HAVE to eat something or else my metabolism will slow down or I’ll feel weird or lack in this or that. We were all raised to think this way. Of course, this does not go for people who are already diagnosed with diabetes and heart problems. It’s too late for them. They did something during their lives to cause themselves to become ill with a disease. High blood pressure and diabetes runs in my family, but I guarantee you, if i take good care of myself, I may never get or may really delay those problems, unlike my parents and all their siblings and relatives of their generation., who did not properly keep themselves healthy enough (despite how much they believe they did so, cause I know for a fact they didn’t). You can beat genetics and what all these nutritonists and doctors say. I don’t believe in taking medication and I do believe it has alot to do with your activity level, eating stle and above all MENTALITY. All I have to say is, use up the stored fat on your body, because it’s doing you no good sitting there. And STOP following all these fad diets, unrealistic exercise regimes and so-called experts with several degrees or what have you.
The two things that have really worked for me is detoxification and a calorie-restricted diet (look up Calorie-Restriction or something like that online). And do everything you can to get rid of the nastiness in your colons and toxins in your body. And don’t worry about gaining back the weight, cause everyone always does. Not a problem. Your weight is supposed to fluctuate.
I’m ashamed to say it, but last Spring I stopped eating everything during the day except for a grande latte with protein at lunch. And I asked my doctor to put me on an anti-depressant that I knew would kick start my metabolism. I dropped my calorie intake to 800-1200 a day, but allowing myself to eat whatever I wanted until the caloric limit was met (real soda, croissants, chocolate caramels). I dropped 15 lbs in about 7 weeks and kept it off effortlessly for most of the year. I relax in the winter and usually go back up to 125-130 (I’m 5/5), but I try to enjoy the upswing in my weight too (I swear a little padding fills in the fine lines!)
I actually ate MORE that I used to and lost weight. I had 1500 calories per day but everything I ate could have only one ingredient (no processed or packaged foods) . I lost 22 pounds and have kept it off. I have lost my taste for bread, alcohol, red meat, and cheese alltogether.
i ate fruit and vegetables only… and less meat. i walked 4-5 times a day with leg and arm weights. I lost 11 pounds in 2 months. easy
I ATE CEASAR SALAD FOR 6WKS WITH LOTS OF GARLIC.I LOST 30LBS AND THE GARLIS ACTUALLY CAME OUT MY PORES.I SMELLED LIKE A COIL OF KOBASAW A UKARANIAN GARLIC SASAUGE I STUNK BAD BUT I SURE LOOKED GOOD.
do you think if it weren’t for all the additives and preservatives in our food today, especially here in the US of A, we may not be battling such a problem with obesity? I believe our FDA, Department of Agriculture and all our government oversight committees should implement new standards to force the food industry to curtail the “fat” and high sugar content from the end food product. The consumer is losing in the end with health issues as a result of eating this “junk,” while these fat cats get richer. It’s high time our government step in and do something about this epidemic. The statistics are out there. People are dying from unsuccessful bariatric/stomach reduction surgeries — all to reverse years of eating all the wrong foods. Where is the consumer food industry watchdog?
Cameron isn’t that crazy, all those “white” foods are horrible for you.

I stopped eating, got down to a size 0, then died.
my daughter ella and maddie had been fighting about maddie’s weight. maddie decided to only eat protein bars. but she only ate dinner and breakfast. she lost 30 pounds and when i found out i made her eat healthy meals and she lost her weight faster than she was losing with the ALL PROTEIN BAR DIET.
No wheat(use alternate and unrefined grains instead)
little dairy(And all full fat. 8% yoghurt is delicious! Non-fat products have none of the healthy bacteria our body needs, and has gone through tons of processing.)
Note* Do not rely on milk for calcium, our body doesn’t actually absorb it that easily, and most milk hardly has enough to do anything anymore.
natural sugars(fruit syrups and cane and carob chocolate)
Very little meat
Tons of fruit and veg.
Nuts, beans, and soy/rice products for regular protein.
WATER(and never buy vitamin water- full of bad sugar!)
Avoid processed food, and cereal that is not in the natural food aisle. (And even those have quite a bit of sugar.)
Flax seed oil(yummy in dressing) and seeds(absorbed best when ground)
Alcohol and coffee in small portions.
Did you know one beer has the starch equivalent to one loaf of bread! That’s why people get those beer belly’s!
Only use antibiotics in an absolute emergency! Doctors have little else to access these days and often over diagnose. Like that commercial says “Not all bugs need drugs!”
Have a headache? Drink some water and eat a banana, don’t be so quick to pop an advil.
And for the love of god, children do not need most vaccines. A fever is good for you! Sweat it out and cleanse your body. A good fever is as good as any cleanse diet
.
This is the healthiest way to go!
I strongly disagree with Alexandria. It is very important to have small(even just a handful of almonds or some figs) portions every couple of hours between main meals.
Starving yourself all day and then binging in the evening is not the way to go. Your body naturally goes into starvation mode as if you were lost in the mountains. To preserve itself it will automatically convert almost all you eat into fat for your body to store(because fat is the hardest to burn/has the most energy.) so that it can last longer.
it is NOT a physiological thing. I think slower, get dizzy and tired, and often get very painful headaches if I go too long without food and water. Anyone can last without eating, but it is unnecessarily uncomfortable and not good for you in the long run.
Most of all! Walk where you can, get a little fresh air each day, and take some time to relax.
Some of you may roll your eyes and say who has time? The reality of it is we probably waste more time stressing about not having enough time, instead of giving ourselves a few minutes a day to just be.
Hope the advice helps!
In response to a few of you that said that you increased you calorie intake and lost weight- I have been consuming about 900 calories for the past few months and have not lost a pound. When I went to my nutritionist, she said that I need to increase my intake to about 1400-1500 calories. Since I’ve done that I’ve gained a few pounds. Did you guys have initial weight gain? How’d you do it? I’m just getting worried! Thanks!
Mel — I did almost the exact same thing. I kept to under 500 calories a day, and only stuck with it for about 8 months. I lost a ton of weight but just like you, my body was fighting so hard to hold on to as much nutrition as possible, that for the longest time, if I ate anything more than 600 or 700 calories a day, I’d retain it. Bad stuff, bad stuff.
Healthy eating and regular exercise! I feel better than ever.
low carb works great for me!

I workout 3-5 days a week. I count every single calories. I have discovered many ways of enjoying food but with less calories. For example I have discovered 40 calorie bread with fat free cheese and lean turkey meat with fat free miracle whip. What you say you want dessert ok….. how about fat free whip cream with fresh fruit. What you say you want coffee you can have coffee. How may you ask, first of all there are coffee creams that are only 25 calories for 1 tablespoons versus like 90 calories or more from other creamers. You also must give up the sugar and trade it in for good old spenda. You then have very low calorie coffee. I could go on and on . I have lost 25 lb’s to prove it and i am a mother of three kids, ages 5, 4, and 1. I weighed 125 lb’s and I could never figure out how to loose those last few pound’s and I finally found the secrets. I now weigh 103 pounds and I have a fantastic body. Everyone looks at me like I am a science project because I have a perfect body and i have had three children. It is possible to be fit and beautiful but you must follow certain important commandment’s. First of all you must be dedicated. 2nd youmust learn to not really give up completly but change your way of eating. You can still eat but you must learn to tune down your taste buds and eat lower calorie food and fat free foods. There is much more I could say but my info is not free. But you get the point. DEDICATION and be willing to CHANGE your EATING HABITS.
Tara: If you eat fish, you’re NOT a vegetarian.
I will be 47 n 2 weeks, i just started menopaus a month ago (frightening thought) it seems everytime I go to the doctors and have my weight checked she tells me I gained another 5-10lbs. I have tried lots of different things the latest being Alli i also tried the dieter’s tea my sister in law told me I should drink a cup right before bed the 1st night which I did she said after I ate dinner the next night I will be running to bathroom (she was right) i was in bathroom about 8 times that night. 2nd night she said after drinking a cup before bed she said I wouldn’t have to go to the bathroom but she did say the 3rd night the cramping was going to be horrible she was right. after that night she told me if I continue to drink the tea every day it would clean out my system, the bad thing is I am always on the run i work 6 days and when I am not at work I am at home helping mom shopping I dont’ have the opportunity to be in the bathroom 20 hours a day….My current weight is 265 was always 145.
i quit smoking 10 years ago that helped put weight on, I went through a doivorce during that period and had surgery for a brain tumor as well, I now have high blood pressure. my legs are always hurting and I am real tired I seriously need to lose some weight.
Great post! Just wanted to let you know you have a new subscriber- me!
I recommend the Eat Clean Diet Book by Tosca Reno. It’s hard to follow the diet all the time, but when I do, I am able to lose weight at a moderate rate. And a healthy dose of exercise helps A LOT.
